Hi, there. I am Luisa and I live in the Florida Suncoast with my husband and my son, lucky to enjoy the palm trees ruffling in the wind and witness breathtaking sunsets on a regular basis.
My formal education started with a B.A. in Communications from PUC-RJ, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. As a native speaker, I have worked as an English-Portuguese translator for many years, for several companies and individuals, in different fields – from pharmaceutical companies to publishers. I can say I am a purist or organic translator, but the truth is that I’m an old-timer. It’s just me and my word processor, I don’t use localization software, nor perform sworn or certified translations. If you are interested, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or fill out the form on the Contact page. I also worked as an ESL/EFL instructor for adults, both in classroom settings and individual tutoring format. I launched a Brazilian Portuguese for Beginners Course on Udemy for English speakers who wish to learn Portuguese from scratch.
A few years ago, I decided to take a step further and upgrade an old passion, acquiring a Professional Photography Certification from the New York Institute of Photography, working with Art and Stock Photography and opening a studio, where I used to do headshots and commercial work. More recently, I received a Meditation certificate from UCF and created a Mindful Photography Course, also available on Udemy. I also currently sell my images on Shutterstock.
As a Brazilian-American, my tendency is to intertwine both cultures in everything I do. Watching my Navy Dad sail the world with his Hasselblad, I have learned to appreciate Photography since about age eight, when he gave me a small Olympus 35mm camera. I have been fortunate to have traveled to many places myself too. I absolutely enjoy visiting other towns and countries and learning about their cultures. On my Mom’s side, I inherited the writing gene.
Thus I can integrate all my passions – photography, teaching, translating, and writing – into one solid path.
That sums it up!
